Türk asıllı İsviçreli futbolcu. Oyuncu şu anda İsviçre Süper Ligi ekiplerinden FC Basel formasını giymektedir.

BSC Old Boys takımındaki ilk sezonunda 18 maçta 10 gol atarak, İsviçre’de ünlenen oyuncu, 18 yaşındayken FC Basel’e transfer olmuştur. Bu klüpteki ilk sezonunu takımın U21 ekibiyle geçiren oyuncu, 1 sezon sonra as takıma yükselmiş ve buradan da İsviçre Millî Futbol Takımı’na kadar yükselmiştir. İlk A Millî Maçı’na 6 Şubat 2008 tarihinde İngiltere karşısında çıkan oyuncu, bu maçta takımının tek golüne imza atmıştır.

Bir çok mevkisini takviye eden Trabzonspor’da sıra forvete geldi… Geçen sezon bu bölgede çok ciddi sıkıntılar yaşayan Bordo-Mavililer, genç ve etkili bir golcüyle kadrosunu güçlendirmenin yollarını arıyor. Ancak genç yıldızın transferinde bazı pürüzler de yok değil… Eren’in 2008 Avrupa Şampiyonası’nın kadrosunda yer alıyor olması, bir an önce transfer görüşmelerinin yapılmasına engel oluyor. At 6′ 2″ Derdiyok is a powerful striker who can also fill in a centre-back if needed. He is of Turkish descent so if he ever played in Turkey he would wear the name “Eren” on the back of his shirt instead of his surname. He started his career with Swiss minnows BSC Old Boys at the beginning of the 2005/06 season in which scored 10 goals in just 18 appearances. FC Basel noticed his goal scoring instinct and snapped him up in 2006 at the age of 18. In the 2006/07 season, Derdiyok was used mainly as a substitute, playing only one full game, and averaging a total of 220 play minutes that season. For Derdiyok, the 2007/08 season proved to be a lot more profitable and he received regular playing time. In FC Basel’s main squad, Derdiyok scored his first hat trick playing away against FC Thun on 2 March 2008. On 6 April 2008 he won the Swisscom Cup, his first title.

In April 2008, he was quoted in saying he would love to play in the same team as Newcastle United striker Michael Owen sparking rumours that he could be set to move to England.

International career

Derdiyok has been a regular in the Swiss youth sides for the past few years, scoring seven goals in seven games for the Switzerland Under 19s and an even more impressive seven goals in five games for the Switzerland Under 21s. After impressing in the Swiss Super League for FC Basel and with the Switzerland Under 21 team, Derdiyok was called up and received his first cap for the Switzerland full team against England, in a game at Wembley, on February 6, 2008, at the age of 19. Having come on as a substitute at half time, it only took 12 minutes for Derdiyok to take an excellent early shot (his first), with which he scored.
